Herb Harris, winner of the Arthur Ashe Multi-Cultural Award
Herb discovered the game of tennis pretty late in life at the age of 28. He loved the athleticism. He plays recreationally several times a week and loves the game so much that he began teaching others to achieve and excel.
Herb joined the staff of Roger Wooton's Tennis Academy 2 1/2 years ago where he coaches kids from 4 years old and up as well as adults. His teaching goal is to show youngsters how to play and be competitive without being arrogant or boastful.
About 2 years ago, Herb joined the Long Island Regional Board as Volunteer Liaison. He is also a member of the Multi-cultural Participating Committee at Eastern and a liaison to the Community Development Committee of USTA Eastern.
Both Herb and his wife Succy own a health and wellness company in the sports nutrition and general health field.
I can tell you from my perspective working side by side with Herb as a tennis pro, that I marvel at his love for kids and their obvious affection for him. He is patient, he instructs beautifully, and just like the person who this award is named for, Herb Harris' love for the game and for children is boundless.
Congratulations, Herb, on receiving the Arthur Ashe Multi-Cultural Award.
